Biomarker research uses biological ‘identifiers’ correlated to a specified disease, behavior, etc. to both diagnose and assist in the treatment of individuals or populations medical maladies. In addition to diagonsitic benefits, biomarker information can be used to assist individuals in maximizing their potential for success.
As with any standard laboratory test that would assess a problem such as testing for thyroid disease, anemia, etc. similarly there are those ‘biomarkers’ that can be identified that assess when a person is under extreme duress, at elvated risk for depression, anxiety, etc.
Biomarkers can be a useful tool in assessing the stressors of training and a candidate’s adaptability to those stressors. This assists both the training program and the candidate in understanding how better to maximize both training and the individual’s optimal performance.
